Welcome to the Three Strands Bible Study Google+ page! Please feel free to add this to the pages you are following and take part in studying the Bible.
I want to start out by posting my journal entries on here once a week. But, for anyone who wants to join me in reading the Bible, I'll post the reading schedule that I'm going to create for myself. That way we can be that cord of three strands.
The goal for this page is to bring people closer to God and closer to each other through God. And the way we did that when myself and my really good friend and mentor started doing Bible studies together was in person. We would meet with each other and a small group of people (4 or 5) and we would read the Bible to ourselves and then journal, using the S.O.A.P method (which I'll explain in a minute) and then we would talk with each other about what we read, what it meant to us, and how we are going to apply it to our lives. We could've done that by ourselves, individually, but by doing that together, there was an added element of accountability as well as the development of a core group of people that we knew we could count on.
Since that time, I have joined the military and am never in one place for too long. And even if I am in one place for a while, the people around me are constantly coming and going. So, I haven't had a chance to develop those deeper relationships and this page is an attempt to hold myself accountable for developing my relationship with God and to develop and deepen those relationships with other people.
But - the S.O.A.P. journaling method:
S - "Scripture": when you're reading today's scriptures, write down the scripture(s) that speak to you as you read.
O - "Observation": now, write down the context of the scripture you wrote down. Describe what is going on at that point in your reading.
A - "Application": here is where you write down what this verse means to you and how you are going to apply it to your life. Ask yourself the question, "How will I be different from here on out as a result of this scripture?"
P - "Prayer": we like to end our journal entries with a prayer so as to solidify today's reading in our hearts. We put that prayer in there to keep God in the center of it. Sometimes the prayer portion can be deeply personal, so if you are going to join me in this Bible study, then don't feel like you have to include your prayer in your post, but I do encourage you to so that we can join you in your prayer.
If you have any questions or need to get in touch with me, please feel free to do so. Take care and God bless!
Here is a link to the Bible reading guide I'll be following. And if you want an example of the S.O.A.P method in action, here is a link to an old personal blog I started a while back.
